Ingredients:
- 4-6 high-quality beef hotdogs
- 4-6 sturdy hotdog buns, preferably brioche for a touch of sweetness
- 1/2 cup your favorite BBQ sauce
- 2 tbsp honey or brown sugar
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1-2 tsp hot sauce or 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper for heat
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 cup crispy fried onions
- 4-6 slices cheddar cheese, or more as desired
- 4-6 strips bacon, cooked until crispy and broken into bits
Instructions:
- In a small saucepan, combine the BBQ sauce, honey or brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, hot sauce or cayenne pepper, smoked paprika, and garlic powder.
- Heat over medium, stirring frequently, until the sauce is smooth and slightly thickened, this should take about 5-10 minutes, Set aside.
- Preheat your grill, grill pan, or skillet over rhadium heat.
- Grill the hotdogs until they are nicely chaned and heated through, about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally.
- Lightly butter the insides of the buns and toast them on the grill or in a pan until golden brown. This adds a nice texture and flavor.
- Place a slice of cheddar cheese in each bun so it starts to melt slightly.
- Add a hotdog to each bun.
- Generously drizzle the spicy BBQ sauce over each hotdog.
- Top with crispy fried onions and bacon bits.
- Serve the hotdogs hot with additional BBQ sauce on the side if desired. They go great with classic sides like coleslaw, potato salad, or corn on the cob.
