- 1 1/2 teaspoons The Spice Way Ground Ginger
- 1 1/2 teaspoons The Spice Way Ground Cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon The Spice Way Ground Cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon The Spice Way Ground Nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
For Decorating
- Royal icing
- Mini chocolate chips or red candies
- Holiday sprinkles
Preparation
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, beat the butter and brown sugar until fluffy, 2 to 3 minutes. Beat in the egg, molasses, and vanilla.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms. Divide the dough in half, flatten into disks, wrap, and chill at least 1 hour.
- Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into shapes, place on parchment-lined baking sheets, and bake 8 to 10 minutes, until the edges are set. Cool completely before decorating.
