Cardamom and Orange Zest Shortbread Cookies

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the flour, ground cardamom, freshly grated nutmeg, orange zest, and chopped dried orange peel to the butter mixture. Mix until well combined and a dough forms.
  4. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  5. Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies are lightly golden.
  7. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
