Apple Pie

  • 2 pie crusts (store-bought or homemade)
  • 6 cups peeled and sliced apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon coarse sugar (for topping, optional)

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Place one pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish and set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
  4. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust, spreading it out evenly. Dot the top with small pieces of butter.
  5. Place the second pie crust over the filling. Trim any excess crust and crimp the edges to seal. Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  6. Brush the top crust with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar, if desired.
  7. Place the pie on a baking sheet to catch any drips and bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  8. Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool on a wire rack before serving.
  9. Serve slices of apple pie warm or at room temperature, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Enjoy your delicious homemade apple pie with a hint of nutmeg and cinnamon!
