Ingredients:
- 2 pie crusts (store-bought or homemade)
- 6 cups peeled and sliced apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon coarse sugar (for topping, optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Place one pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
- Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust, spreading it out evenly. Dot the top with small pieces of butter.
- Place the second pie crust over the filling. Trim any excess crust and crimp the edges to seal. Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
- Brush the top crust with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar, if desired.
- Place the pie on a baking sheet to catch any drips and bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
- Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool on a wire rack before serving.
- Serve slices of apple pie warm or at room temperature, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Enjoy your delicious homemade apple pie with a hint of nutmeg and cinnamon!
