Ingredients
For the Dough
- 3/4 cup warm milk (105°F–110°F)
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more as needed
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon The Spice Way Ground Cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon The Spice Way Ground Cardamom
- 1/4 teaspoon The Spice Way Ground Nutmeg
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 3 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons The Spice Way Orange Peel
- Optional: 1/4 cup candied orange peel
- Optional: 1/4 cup raisins
- Optional: 1/4 cup chopped almonds
For Egg Wash
- 1 egg, beaten
Instructions
- Mix warm milk, yeast, and 1 tablespoon sugar. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Add flour, remaining sugar, salt, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, orange peel, butter, and eggs. Mix into a soft dough.
- Knead 8–10 minutes (or 5–6 minutes in mixer) until smooth. Add optional mix-ins and knead briefly.
- Cover and let rise 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled.
- Divide, shape into 2 loaves, and let rise 30–45 minutes.
- Brush with egg wash and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25–30 minutes until golden.
