Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 1/2 teaspoons The Spice Way Ras El Hanout
- 1 tablespoon The Spice Way Tomato Powder (or tomato paste)
- 2 cups long-grain white rice, rinsed
- 3 cups water or beef broth
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt, plus more to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon The Spice Way Black Pepper
- 1/4 cup chopped parsley or cilantro (optional)
- Toasted almonds or pine nuts (optional)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onion and cook for 5 minutes until softened.
- Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned and fully cooked, breaking it apart as it cooks.
- Stir in Ras El Hanout, tomato powder (or paste), salt, and black pepper.
- Add rinsed rice and stir for 1 minute to coat the grains evenly with spices.
- Pour in water or broth, bring to a boil, then cover, reduce heat, and simmer for 18–20 minutes until rice is tender.
- Remove from heat and let rest covered for 10 minutes.
- Fluff with a fork and garnish with parsley or cilantro and toasted nuts if desired.
