Ras El Hanout Beef Rice Pilaf

Serves: 6

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons The Spice Way Ras El Hanout
  • 1 tablespoon The Spice Way Tomato Powder (or tomato paste)
  • 2 cups long-grain white rice, rinsed
  • 3 cups water or beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt, plus more to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon The Spice Way Black Pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley or cilantro (optional)
  • Toasted almonds or pine nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onion and cook for 5 minutes until softened.
  2. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add ground beef and cook until browned and fully cooked, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  4. Stir in Ras El Hanout, tomato powder (or paste), salt, and black pepper.
  5. Add rinsed rice and stir for 1 minute to coat the grains evenly with spices.
  6. Pour in water or broth, bring to a boil, then cover, reduce heat, and simmer for 18–20 minutes until rice is tender.
  7. Remove from heat and let rest covered for 10 minutes.
  8. Fluff with a fork and garnish with parsley or cilantro and toasted nuts if desired.
